CRUSHED
By Andrew Watson
EXT. HOUSE - DAY
Two toddlers (more likely to be around 7 or 8), one male, one female, sit cross-legged on the lawn outside a typical London townhouse. It's a beautiful sunny day in 'old London town'.
What the audience don't know is that the two of them have been joined at the hip ever since they were born, as all childhood playmates are.
It was love at first sight, not that they knew it at that point. They being Byron Francis Daley and Nancy Shadfaze - it's a cruel world.
NANCY is playing with the latest hot wheels action truck.
Blonde hair, blue eyes, Byron had never seen anyone like her. He was smarter than most kids of his age and had caught onto the idea of sex a lot earlier than most parents would normally allow their child. Even so, "Snow White & the Seven Dwarves" (not that version) was a valuable lesson he would never forget.
The problem was that Nancy didn't even notice him. She had unfortunately not been privy to Byron's prior sexual knowledge and had next to no interest in the opposite sex. One day, Byron had been so desperate to please her that he had bought her that very same Hot Wheels action truck which she currently held in her grasp. He had saved up his pocket money for two whole months to provide her with this privilege and yet she didn't even care for him. Byron wasn't about to become love's bitch though.
Byron walks over to Nancy, the shy girl that she is and gently takes the truck from out of her grasp. The two lock eyes for the first time -
CUE: "Close To You" by The Carpenters on the soundtrack.
- and Nancy reluctantly hands the truck over to him.
For once, Byron had the attention of the girl of his dreams. She was like playdough in his hands.
Byron takes the truck over to his side of the lawn and Nancy follows, eager to find out what Byron has to show her.
As the sun turns down the heat a notch, Byron and Nancy take a place in the shade underneath the Mango tree.
Through a montage of shots, Byron crafts a ramp out of broken tree branches for Nancy's truck to run off. Byron sends the truck flying into the sun at the other end of the garden. Nancy is easily impressed and plants a big sloppy one on Byron's left cheek. Much blushing ensues.
Byron had her under his spell.
Byron picks up the truck from the other end of the garden.
And then it happened. How quickly things can change. One minute earlier, Byron had been feeling great. Now he was about to lose the entire contents of his stomach. Byron was overcome with the feeling you get around 4 seconds before you throw up. The feeling of dread. It comes from below.
CUT TO:
SPLAT!
Byron pukes everywhere. All over his shirt, all over his trousers, all over his shoes and most importantly all over Nancy's brand new Hot Wheels truck.
Chunks of carrot, tomato and mince. What a pity. Byron had enjoyed that homemade Bolognese.
Byron immediately starts crying, as most kids of his age would tend to do after they threw up.
Nancy arrives at the scene just in time to see fresh puke dripping down Byron's chin and the vomit covered remains of her truck. Of course, she immediately starts crying and runs back into the house in disgust (to be shot in slow motion with Nancy in the foreground and Byron surrounded by a vomity mess in the background).
As Dean Martin's "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You" kicks in on the soundtrack, the camera pans to a "No Dumping" sign.
Well and truly dumped.
